The Island
Much of the island is designated as area of outstanding natural beauty. There are numerous beaches, bays, cliff walks and downs. There are many traditional English pubs offering excellent food for all tastes. Our favourite is the Woodvale on Gurnard Bay famous for its beautiful sunsets.
Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde are excellent and safe beaches for children. The main town is Newport which is a bustling shopping centre. There are in fact far too many places of interest to mention but my favourites are the former home of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert; Osbourne House situated in East Cowes, Farringford the former home of Tenneyson poet laureate to Queen Victoria, and the walk from Freshwater to Alum Bay across the Tennyson Downs.
